Patricia Southall graduated the James Madison University with a journalism degree. In 1993 she won Miss Virginia USA and later, in 1994, she represented her state in the Miss USA pageant and lost the title in front of Miss South California, Lu Parker.
She married in 1995 with Martin Lawrence, an american comedian, and had a daughter, named Jasmin Page Lawrence. They divorced in 1996. Later she married with the football player Emmit Smith, on 22 April, 2000. Together they had a son on 15 May 2002 and named him Emmit IV. f her second husband, named Skylar.
