
Par Lagerkvist (full name Pi¤r Fabian Lagerkvist) was born on May 23, 1891 in Vaxjo, Sweden. He was a Swedish author who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1951.
Biography and Career :
His family was a religious family so his childhood was happy and careless. During the high school he became Darwinist.
In 1913, he studied Expressionism and Cubism in Paris. By his writings, Par Lagerkvist tried to renew lyrics, proses and drama.
The motives in his writings were: the anxiety- ingest, the aspiration-langtan, the strange-framblingen, the darkness-morkret.
The Swedish literary critics recognized his talent by the times Par Lagerkvist had published "The Duary", 1944.
The international success came with the novel "Barabbas", 1950.
In 1951, he was awarded
to the Nobel Prize for literature. He passed away on July11, 1974, in Stockholm.

- He tried to explore how a person can find a meaningful life in a world where a war can kill millions for very little reason.
- In his early years Lagerkvist supported modernist and radicalist views.
