Omar Khayyam (c. 1050-1123) was born in Nishapur, he founded a school of astronomical research and assisted in reforming the calendar.
Short Biography:
The result of his observations was the Jalali era, begun in 1079. In the West, Omar Khayyam is chiefly known as a poet through Fitzgerald's version of the The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam in 1859.
