Her father is the soul music legend Marvin Gaye and her grandfather is Cuban jazz great Slim Gaillard. Coming from a musical family it's normal that she loved music since she was a child. In 1992 she released her first album, "Love For The Future" and had a three year-collaboration with Prince.
People Magazine chose her one of the 50 Most Beautiful People and soon she signed a contract with Ford Modeling Agency in 1994. She was the face of Armani. As an actress she played in movies like "Ali", "Matrix Revolutions" and "Matrix Reloaded".
