NIU Ben, a Chinese famous actor with a good reputation of "evergreen tree", original name ZHANG Xuejing born in 1935 in Tianjin. Lost his parents at age 6, then he lived with his oldest brother in Beijing, who worked as a driver in Beijing, China Third Film Factory. He was chosen to play some child's role in movie Qing gong mi shi, and became a child star.
In 1946, he played a role named as little Ox¡, since then he got his stage name NIU Ben. Same year, he went to Hong Kong and joined in the shooting of movies of huozang, and so on. After the establishment of People Republic of China, he became an actor of Shanghai movie factory, also a member of Chinese movie council. As he made a vivid performance in the film of Herdsman¡, he was awarded the Best Supporting Actor of the 3rd Chinese
Film of Golden Rooster Award and the 6th Hundred Flowers Awards for Films in 1983. And he also directed the TV dramas of Father, Xi zhong yuan, and Cang jin ji, etc. In his almost 70 years of actor¡¯s career, he has already acted for hundreds of movies and TV dramas. And he¡¯s still active on the stage of Chinese films and TV dramas at age of seventies now.
