Nikolay Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov (1844-1908) used Russian folk idiom and rhythms in his Romantic compositions and published a text on orchestration.
Short Biography:
His operas include The Maid of Pskov in 1873, The Snow Maiden in 1882, Mozart and Salieri in 1898, and The Golden Cockerel in 1907, a satirical attack on despotism that was banned until in 1909.
Other works include the symphonic poem Sadko in 1867, the programme symphony Antar in 1869, and the symphonic suite Scheherazade in 1888. He also completed works by other composers, for example, Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov.
