Ngugi wa Thiong'o (born in 1938) was imprisoned after the performance of the play Ngaahika Ndeendall Will Marry When I Want in 1977, and lived in exile from 1982. Short Biography:
His novels, written in English and Gikuyu, include The River Between, Petals of Blood, and Caitaani Mutharaba-mi/Devil on die Cross, and deal with colonial and post-independence oppression.
