
Nathaniel Hawthorne was born on July 4, 1804 in Salem, Massachusetts, United States. He was a famous American writer.
Biography and Career :
He was the second of the three children of Nathaniel Hathorne. His father was a Capitan on a boat and passed away in 1808. The family moved to the Manning mansion in Salem. Ten years later in 1818 they went to Raymond, Maine, an area still wild where Nathaniel had the chance to go fishing and haunting.
In 1812 he started Bowdoin Collage in Brunswick, Maine and became friend with Horatio Bridge, Franklin Pierce and Jonathan Cilley.
Nathaniel Hawthorne graduated in 1825 and went back to his family in Salem. According to his sister he had already finished "Seven Stories From My Native Lands" when he graduated High-school.
In 1828 he
published anonymous "Fanshawe" from his own budget.
Nathaniel Hawthorne published in 1830 "The Story of an Old Lady" and "The Valley Among The Three Hills".
"The Minister's Black Veil", "The Maypole of Merry Mount" appeared in 1835 in The Sign Magazine.
He quitted Customs in 1840 and published "Grandfather's Chair " .
He went back to Salem in 1841 and published "Famous Old Man".
Nathaniel Hawthorne married Sophia in 1842; they moved to The Old Manse in Concord, Massachusetts, where they lived for three years. Hawthorne and his wife then moved to The Wayside.
In 1850 he published "The Scarlet Letter" in 2.500 copies and one year later "The House of The Seven Gables".
Nathaniel Hawthorne was called consul in Liverpool and Manchester by the president Pierce in 1853.
In 1858 he traveled to France and on his way there he stopped in Italy where he started to write "Ancestral marks" which was unfinished and it was published postmortem. He also started a novel with an Italian theme and in 1859 when he went back to England he rewrote the Italian novel.
In 1863 he published "Our Old House".
On the 19th of May 1864 Nathaniel Hawthorne passed away being in Plymouth, New hampshire.
