Mugurel Buga (full name Mugurel Mihai Buga) was born on December 16, 1977 in Brasov, Romania. He is a famous Romanian football player.
Biography and Career:
Mugurel Buga started playing professional football at a local team in his birth town, FC Brasov.
He debuted for FC Brasov in A Division (first Romanian League) on the 23rd of April 1997 in a game against FC Farul Constanta which was lost by his team with 1-0.
In the first season for FC Brasov he played only in eight games and scored once. In the end of that season unfortunately for him FC Brasov fell in B Division (second Romanian League).
Mugurel Buga became a titular player for the next two seasons and played in 63 games and scored 9 goals.
At the end of the season 1998-1999 his team succeeded to return in A
Division.
After another season for FC Brasov he was remarked by Mircea Lucescu, Rapid's coach, and was transferred there.
He didn't play too much there, only in three games and at the half of the season he went back to FC Brasov, where succeeded to score five goals in 13 games and his team made its best performance in the whole history, third place in the championship and the qualify in UEFA Cup.
The next two seasons were also very good for FC Brasov, but after this came a bad period for the team and in the season 2004-2005 they fell in B Division again.
Totally for FC Brasov he played in 199 games and scored 47 times.
After his team fell in B Division Mugurel Buga was transferred again to Rapid Bucharest where played until now.
His best performance with his new team was a vice-champion title in the season 2005-2006 and a Romanian Cup in 2006.
In the European Cups he debuted with FC Brasov in 2001 in UEFA Cup. He also played in UEFA Cup with Rapid Bucharest in the seasons 2001-2002 and 2005-2006.
In the season 2005-2006 Rapid Bucharest participated in UEFA Cup and had the best season in their history. They succeeded to qualify in the groups phase after they eliminated Feyernoord Rotterdam. In a group with Shakhtar Donetsk, PAOK Salonic, Rennes and VfB Stuttgart they obtained 3 victories and they lost one match against VfB Stuttgart. In the next round they eliminated Hertha Berlin and after this another German team, Hamburg SV. In the quarters final they were eliminated by Steaua Bucharest, their great Romanian rival after two equal games.
In the season 2006-2007 they succeeded to qualify again in UEFA Groups in a group with Hapoel Tel Aviv, Paris Saint-Germain, Mlada Boleslav and Panathinaikos Athens.
Mugurel Buga debuted at the Romanian national team on the 27th of May 2006 in a game against Northern Ireland and succeeded to score once. He also played in other three games against Colombia, Cyprus and Belarus.
