Mircea Dinescu was born on November 11, 1950 in Slobozia, Romania. He is a famous Romanian poet, editor and dissident.
Biography and Career :
He studied journalism at The Social-Political Sciences Academy. In his youth he was considered a promising poet, having a few volumes of poetry published. He was the only person who was first a door-man and after that a member of the Writers Association in Bucharest.
His book- "The death reeds the newspaper" was refused by the communist censorship in 1988, but it was published in Amsterdam.
In 1989 he was dismissed from "Literary Romania" magazine because of an interview given to the "Liberation" France news-paper in which he criticized Nicolae Ceausescu and after that he was arrested at his home and excluded from the party. He is
put under permanent watch and he is denied any contact with any person besides his family. Outside the country he starts a big campaign of solidarity for the persecuted poet, sustained especially by the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung", campaign that was very well received in Holland, France, Sweden and certainly in Germany.
On 22 December 1989 he leads to the television crowds of people of Bucharest to announce the Romanian nation the escape of Ceausescu and the beginning of the Revolution. After the Revolution he is named president of The Writers Union in Romania.
Mircea Dinescu is the owner of :
-"Plai cu boi"- a satiric monthly magazine in the "Playboy" stile;
-"The poor man's aspirin" - a weekly satiric paper;
-"The old dilema";
-"Literary Romania".
-"The thought"- a news paper created in 2005 with C.T.Popescu.
He is a member of The National Council of Studying Security's Archives, and a powerful voice of the Romanian civil society.
