Michael was born to Kirk Douglas and Diana Dill, a well known actor and a Bermudian actress. He has another three siblings. His first contact with the acting world was with "The Streets of San Francisco", a television series in which he starred in the 1972 - 1976 period. In the same period he also produced a movie, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" for which he even received an Academy Award.
His career stagnated at a certain level of success until 1984 when he received a starring role in "Romancing the Stone", a romantic adventure comedy. After he started receiving more and more important roles in movies as "
The Jewel of the Nile", "Fatal Attraction" (1987), "Wall Street" for which he received an Academy Award as Best Actor, and "The War of the Roses".
Douglas married his wife, Diandra Luker in 1977 and they have a son, Cameron born on December 13, 1978. In 2000 they divorced and also in that year he married Catherine Zeta-Jones with who he has two children.
