Meredith Baxter was born on June 21, 1947 in South Pasedena, California. She is the daughter of the actress Whitney Blake and Tom Baxter. She has two brothers, the older Richard and the younger Brian.

Biography and Career :

She got her first television role in 1972 in CBS' series "Bridget Loves Bernie". The show was canceled after the first season. She bacame well-known later for the "Family" series as Nancy Lawrence Maitland. She recieved two Emmy Awards in 1977 and 1988 for the best Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

Then she got a role in the HBO's series "Standing Room Only". After that her next role in television was in "Family Ties" where she played Elyse Keaton.
After that she got the role of a psychopathic in "The Kissing Place" wher e she was also producer. For that role she was again nominated at Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries.

In 1994 she won another Emmy Award for her lesbian mother role in "Other Mothers" in 1993.

In 1997 she playes in the ABC's series "Spin City".

In 2005 she appeared in comercials for Garden State Life Insurance Company. In 2006 she is co-hosting the NBC morning news with Matt Lauer.

In 2007 she played a guest star in CBS' "Cold Case". In 2009 she got another guest role in the second season web series "We Hate To Stop Now".
