Melanie Griffith was born in New York City, New York. She is the daughter of Tippi Hedren, was a producer and former actor/advertising executive. Her parnts divorced she was four years of age.
Her father remarried Nanita Greene, a model/actress and had two more children, Tracy Griffith, an actress and Clay A. Griffith, a set designer. Malanie's mother married Noel Marshall, an agent and producer.
She grew up with three step-brothers. She moved back and forth between New York where her father lived and Antelope Valley, California, where her mother formed the animal preserve Shambala. She studied at Hollywood Professional School and gr
aduated at the age of 16 years.
Melanie began her career as a model. In 1975, she got a major role in 'Night Moves' in which she did several racy scenes at the age of 17. After this, she got many movies like 'Smile' (1975), 'The Drowning Pool' (1975) and 'One on One' (1977). Her career was down for several years as she turned down many good movies.
In 1984, she played a porn start in the Brian De Palma thriller 'Body Double' that gained her career momentum. She won the 'National Society of Film Critics Award' for Best Supporting Actress. She acted as a lead role in Jonathan Demme's 'Something Wild' in 1986.
She has also played in television series 'Buffalo Girls' and was nominated the Golden Globe Award. She has played in several other television shows.
She married four times. First, with Don Johnson on 8th January 1976 till July 1976. Second, Steven Bauer on 8th September 1981 and divorced in 1987 with one child.
Third, remarried Don Johnson on 26th June 1989 and divorced in 1996 with one child. At present, she is living with Antonio Banderas whom she married on 14th May 1996. They have one child.
