
Meilen Tu was born on January 17, 1978 in Tarzana, California, USA. She is a tennis player of Taiwanese origins.
Biography and Career :
Her parents are from Taiwan, but they left to the United Stated so their daughter was born in America. She started playing tennis when she was a child and in 1994 she became a professional tennis player. Since then she started winning tournaments, she has one WTA single title, four ITF single titles, four WTA doubles titles and four ITF doubles titles.
On January 17, 2001 she won her first WTA title. She won the tournament at Auckland in New Zealand, her opponent in the final was Paola Suarez from Argentina and the match ended with the score 7-6(10), 6-2.
In 1997 and 2001 she participated at the US Open reaching the second tour, but unfo
rtunately she ended there.
At the Australian Open she played into the second round in 1997, 1999, 2001 and 2002 never passing in the third round of the tournament. Another second round was at the Grand Slam tournament, she was played in 2001 at the French Open and again she lost.
In the year of the 2002 she had her best performance at a Grand Slam tournament and it was at Wimbledon where she qualified into the third round of the tournament.
Another good tournament for her was in 2006 at the DFS Classic were she played the semi-finals against Vera Zvonareva, but lost to her and eventually, the Italian player won the final and the title. In 2007 she was ranked on the highest position for her in Top 100.
