Mehmet Oz was born on 11th June 1960 in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. He is Turkish-American cardiothoracic surgeon and author.
Biography and Career:
Mehmet Oz was born in Cleveland, Ohio. His parents Suna and Mustafa, were Turkish and had immigrated from Konya, Turkey. His father, Mustafa, was born in Bozkır, a small town in the Konya Province of central Turkey.
His mother, Suna, was from a wealthy family of civil engineers, writers, and businessmen. He has two younger sisters, Seval Oz Ozveren and Nazlim Oz.
Mustafa was a brilliant student and scored very well in school and earned scholarships. Scholarship made him to emigrate to US as a medical resident in a Cleveland hospital in 1995.
He studied at Tower Hill School in Wilmington, Delaware and in 1982, he
got his undergraduate degree from Harvard University. In 1986, he earned two degrees, MD and MBA, from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and The Wharton School.
Oz became the Professor of Cardiac Surgery at Columbia University. Previously, he directed the Heart Assist Device Program. At NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, he is a founder of the Complementary Medicine Program. His area of interest and research include heart replacement surgery, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, and healthcare policy.
He is also an author and has written more than 400 original publications, book chapters, abstracts, and books and has also received several patents.
Oz is a scientific advisor to MDLinx, a leading physician portal. Oz is the founder and chairman of HealthCorps, a non-profit organization that pays a small stipend to recent college graduates to spend two years in high schools mentoring students about health, nutrition, and fitness.
The award winning book 'Healing from the Heart' was authored by Oz. In 2005, Oz along with Dr. Michael Roizen, released the book 'YOU: The Owner's Manual: An Insider's Guide to the Body That Will Make You Healthier and Younger' and this book was listed on The New York Times Bestseller List.
He has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, as well as on Larry King Live, CNN, and other networks.
He has married Lisa Oz, an author and reiki master. He has four children, Defne Nur (Daphne), Arabella Sezen, Zoe Yasemin, and Oliver Mustafa.
