Maynard James Keenan was born on 17th April 1964 in Ravenna, Ohio, US. He is an American rock singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, actor, and winemaker.
Biography and Career:
Keenan was born in Ravenna, Ohio. He is the only son of Judith Marie and Michael Loren Keenan. His parents divorced when he was four years old, in 1968. His father was a high school teacher. His father would meet him only once a year. His mother suffered from paralyzing cerebral aneurysm, when Keenan was 11 years old. Two years later, he was sent to his father's house to live in Michigan. Keenan attended his high school and college in Michigan.
He served Army in early 1980s. Later, he studied in Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 1988, he moved to Los
Angeles, California to become an interior design and set construction.
He met Adam Jones and formed the band 'Tool' in 1990. In 1991, the band 'Tool' signed a contract with Zoo Entertainment and released 'Opiate EP' in 1992. In 1993, in the United States, the band 'Tool' released their debut album 'Undertow'. This album was certified gold after eight months and platinum a year later. Tool released their single 'Prison Sex', a song where Keenan was in a slight grunge-style.
Keenan started working with Billy Howerdel, Tool's guitarist for a different project. They created the band 'A Perfect Circle' in 1999. They released their debut album 'Mer de Noms' in 2000. Their 'Thirteenth Step' album was very successful during 2003. Both albums were eventually certified platinum.
Keenan has also acted in several segments of Mr. Show, most notably in the Ronnie Dobbs sketch presented in the first season.
Keenan is also a winemaker, and he has over 2000 bottles of wine in his house. He also runs his own vineyard called Caduceus Cellars. Keenan as Puscifer released the first studio album; 'V' Is for Vagina, in October 2007.
He married Jennifer Brena Ferguson in 2003 and they separated in December, 2007. They have a son, Devo H. Keenan (born in 1995) who sang backing vocals on A Perfect Circle's Thirteenth Step.
