Biography and Career :
Her parents' names are Melanie Molitorova and Karol Hingis, both former tennis players. Because her parents divorced when she was still a child, she moved with her mother to Moravia and then to Switzerland. She was still a baby girl when she started hitting the tennis balls. After two years she participated at her first tournament.
In 1993 she amazed the whole world and became the youngest junior player to win a Grand Slam title. The title she conquered then was at the French Open. One year after she won the Wimbledon as a junior player and was placed on the first position of the top. In th
e same year she became a professional tennis player and started conquering the world of tennis.
During her career she received more than 45 titles as a single player and about 38 titles at doubles. The three titles at Australian Open were won in 1997, 1998 and 1999 and she beat players like Mary Pierce, Amelie Mauresmo or Conchita Martinez.
* In 1997 she won another two Grand Slam Titles at Wimbledon and US Open, victories against Jana Novotna and Venus Williams.
* The only Grand Slam title she still doesn't have is the French Open. She played finals there two times, in 1997 and 1999, but lost to Iva Majoli and Steffi Graf. 1997 was a great year for her and it was also the year when she became World's Number One.
She suffered injuries and in 2003 she announced that she will retire from tennis. After two years she changed her mind and tried to come back but after losing in the first round at Pattaya in Thailand she explained she had no other plans regarding tennis.
