Biography and Career
Margot Kidder was born in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada. She is a daughter of Jill and Kendall Kidder. She has a sister, Annie, and three brothers, John, Michael and Peter. Kidder's niece, Janet Kidder, is also an actress.
In 1960s, Kidder appeared in several TV drama series for the CBC, including guest appearances on Wojeck, Adventures in Rainbow Country, and a semi-regular role as a young reporter on McQueen. In Nichols, again she made an appearance as a barmaid.
Besides she also appeared in a number of low-budget Canadian movies in the late 1960s, like The Best Damn Fiddler from Calabogie to Kaladar. In early 1970s before going on to star in the Brian de
Palma psychological thriller Sisters in 1973 and in 1974, the horror film Black Christmas.
In 1978, she played a role of Lois Lane, in the film Superman: The Movie and its sequels. Later in 1983, Kidder's role in Superman III consisted of less than five minutes of footage. Her role in 1987's unsuccessful Superman IV: The Quest for Peace was more substantial though.
In addition to the Superman movies, Kidder has starred in The Amityville Horror, Willie & Phil, Some Kind of Hero and The Great Waldo Pepper opposite to Robert Redford.In 2000, Kidder played Eileen Canboro in Apocalypse III: Tribulation, a Christian film dealing with Christian eschatology and the rapture.
She made several guest appearances in different movies and series later. After a longtime in 2008, she took a prominent role as an embattled guidance counselor named Dorothy Fisher in the gay-themed mystery film On the Other Hand, Death.
Margot has been married and divorced three times: to American novelist Thomas McGuane by whom she had her only child, daughter Maggie. Later she got married to actor John Heard and lastly to a French film director Philippe de Broca. None of the marriages lasted longer than a year.
