Mara Carfagna (full name Maria Rosaria Carfagna) was born on December 18, 1975, in Salerno, Italy. Both her parents are teachers and she has taken lessons in piano and dancing. She received a bachelor degree in law from the University of Salerno in 2001.
She participated in major beauty contests like Miss Italy 1997. Maria finished 6th in this pageant. Following this success, she landed a job with the Italian commercial television network Mediaset, owned by Silvio Berlusconi.
For six years during 2000-06, Mara Carfagna appeared on the show "La domenica del villaggio". In 2006, she began anchoring for the show "Piazza Grande".
From the publicity she got at these shows, future-president Silvio Berlusconi invited her to join his political party, Forza Italia.
