Lou Ferrigno is, by far, the most exposed to the public bodybuilder from the seventies.
Career:
Born on the 9th of November, 1951, Louis Jude “Lou” Ferrigno began his training with the iron weights at the age of 13, just after he had suffered an ear infection, infection that lead to the loss of his hearing in a proportion of 85%. As concerning his ear problem, Lou himself sometime ago confessed: "...if I hadn't lost some of my hearing, I wouldn't be where I am now. It forced me to maximize my own potential. I had to be better than the average person to succeed."
In 1973, he won the Mr. America title. One year later, in 1974, he was given the second position at the Mr. Olympia. Though, these are not the only shows that Lou has ever won. In fact, 20 years later, at the firs
t Masters Olympia contest, he won the second position, right after Robby Robinson, known also as the Black Prince. If it’s one thing that Lou used to have, and the other pro bodybuilders he used to compete against didn’t have, then it is its upper pectorals. Lou is considered to be have the all time best upper pectorals. In fact, this can bee seen on every of the 37 magazine covers he has appeared on.
As an actor, his fame was brought by the movie “The Hulk”. The interesting fact – and just to see how powerful is the power of will- is that Lou Ferrigno has always been a huge fan of The Hulk – during the first years of Lou’s life, the Hulk was just a comics character. After years and years of hard work, Lou Ferrigno, despite his hearing problem, managed to obtain the Hulk’s role in the movie that was about to be shot. As a result, it was one of the most successful movies ever. Though, that’s not the only time when Lou has appeared on TV. Since 2000, he has been playing in “King Of Queens”, a sitcom extremely popular in US and Europe . Further more, he has appeared even in one Michael Jackson video, in “Liberian Girl”, among a lot of Hollywood stars.
Nowadays, when he is 60 years old, Lou is still appearing at different Fitness Expos he is invited at. He is still working out, but not with such an intensity he used to train back in the days when he was a pro bodybuilder.
Why is Lou Ferrigno famous?
It’s because he is successful actor and former bodybuilder, even though he has been suffering of a hearing defect that allows him to use his ears only in a proportion of 15% since he was 13. His appearance in “The Hulk” and also the winning of several pro bodybuilding contests are definitely the most important factors that are contributing a lot at his fame.
