Letizia Ortiz (birth name Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano) was born on September 15, 1972 in Oviedo, Asturias, Spain. She is the wife of Felipe, the Prince of Asturias, who is heir apparent to the Spanish throne. She is styled HRH The Princess of Asturias.
Biography and Career :
She is the daughter of Jess Ortiz, a journalist and businessman, and Paloma Rocasolano, a nurse and union official. Her parents divorced in 1999 and her father re-married a journalist, Ana Togores.
She attended La Gesta school in Oviedo and after her family moved in Madrid she went to Ramiro de Maeztu high school. After she finished the high-school she completed a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism at the Complutense University of Madrid, as well as a Master's Degree in Audiovisual Journalism at the Institute
for Studies in Audiovisual Journalism.
After this she started working at many newspapers like "La Nueva Espagna" and "ABC". She also spent some time in Guadalajara, Mexico and worked for the newspaper "Siglo XXI".
She started her career in television after she returned in Spain and she worked for the Spanish version of the economic channel Bloomberg before moving to the news network CNN+. In 2000 she moved to TVE and worked for the news channel 24 Horas.
Before she became a princess she was married for one year with Alonso Guerrero y Perez, high-school literature teacher and previous teacher of hers. In 2003 the Royal Household announced Letizia's engagement to the Prince of Asturias and soon after this she moved to live in a wing of the La Zarzuela Palace.
The royal wedding took place in the Cathedral Santa Mari璦 la Real de la Almudena in Madrid. In 2005 and 2005 she gave birth to two daughters and were named Infanta Leonor and Infanta Sofia.
