Mary Leona Gage was known for her beauty. She was born on 8th April 1939 in Longview, Texas. She basically belonged to Maryland, USA and was crowned Miss USA 1957. Till date, she is the only women from Maryland, to be crowned as Miss USA. On the very next day of the Miss USA contest, it was revealed that she was 18, married and was having two children; hence the crown was taken back.
Mary's family had struggled a lot when she was child. Her mom used to work in two different places and due to an industrial accident, her father was paralyzed. Her father stayed home after that accident. She did her first marriage at the age of 14. Her husband; Gene Ennis was working in US Air force as an airman. Mary was only 13 when she first met Ennis who was 24 at that time. Mary was pregnant immediat
ely after the wedding, but Ennis was not available since he was on shipped out. Mary gave birth to her first child at the age of 14. After waiting for some time, Mary decided to get married to someone else. Hence she married with Edward Thacker who was also an airman. But later, Ennis turned up in 1953 and they again got married. She had her second child at the age of 16. The marriage was not successful and she was facing lot of problems. Hence to divert her mind, she thought of working. She wanted to work as a model and she met part time model, who helped her out and introduced her to Walters Modeling Agency.
Mary has appeared in television on "The Ed Sullivan Show" which was one of the CBS's highest rated shows. In hotel Tropicana, she was working as a showgirl in 1957. In 1958, Marry and Ennis divorced. She married to Nick Covacevich who was a dancer and later filed divorce in 1961. She went to Los Angeles, California and did her fourth marriage with Gunther Peter Collatz. Gunther was an aspiring screenwriter.
Mary has appeared in film Tales of Terror in 1962 and in 1965, she publish her book "My Name is Leona Gage, Will Somebody Please Help Me?" She has worked in Strip Clubs and Many other films. Mary died recently due to heart failure on 5th October 2010 in Sherman Oaks, California.
