Laurent Fabius (born in 1946) is a French socialist politician, prime minister 1984-1986. He introduced a liberal, free-market economic programme.
Short Biography:
Fabius became economic adviser to the Socialist Party (PS) leader Mitterrand in 1976, entered the National Assembly in 1978, and was a member of the socialist government from 1981.
In 1984, at a time of economic crisis, he was appointed prime minister. He resigned after his party's electoral defeat in March 1986.
