Laure Manaudou was born on October 9, 1986, in Villeurbanne, France. Laure began taking swimming lessons from the age of 5.
In 2000, she began training under Coach Philippe Lucas. As a teenager, Laure began participating in swimming contents. She won her first silver medals for backstroke of 50 meters and 100 meters in 2001. In 2002, she won the 100 meters backstroke at the European Junior Swimming Championships held in Austria. She also won silvers for 50 meters backstroke and 200 meters freestyle in that event.
In 2003, Laure Manaudou earned gold for a number of disciplines in her country which include the 400 metres, 800 meters and 1500 meters freestyle. She also got gold for backstroke of 50 meters and 100 meters. In doing this, Laure broke four national records in France. Laure g
ot the chance to enter the World Championships held in Barcelona that year. Apart from these, she entered the European Championships in Dublin and grabbed a bronze for the 100 meters backstroke.
In 2004, Laure Manaudou earned four national swimming championship titles and three gold medals at the European Championship. Laure Manaudou represented her country at the 2004 Athens Olympics. Laure became the first French woman to win gold for 400 meters freestyle and also won silver, as well as bronze medals.
In 2005, she won gold for 400 meters freestyle in Montreal. In May 2006, Laure beat the world record for this event. But that record did not last long as Laure beat her own world record in 400 meters freestyle at European Swimming Championships in Budapest. Laure also grabbed four gold and three bronze medals at the European Championships.
During this time, Laure left her existing coach and training house and moved to an Italian swimming club but didn't stop swimming for France.
In 2007, Laure grabbed four medals at the European Championships.
In 2008, she entered the Beijing Olympics but gave a bad performance. Laure described that it was due to other pressures and that she doesn't want to swim any more.
