Lara Fabian (birth name Lara Crokaert) was born on January 9, 1970 in Etterbeek, Belgium. She is an international Belgian-Sicilian francophone singer, known for her vocal prowess and skilled technique.
Biography and Career :
She was born to a Flemish father and a Sicilian mother and after she was born in Etterbeek her family moved in Catania, Italy so she spent her first five years of her life there and learned as her first language Italian. After five years they returned in Belgium at Brussels.
She started to sing and take piano lesson from a young age and at eight years old she started to take formal music lesson at Royal Conservatory of Brussels. She participated and won a lot of music contests and the c
onsequence was her first single ever "L'Aziza est en pleurs" / Il y avait " (written by the Belgian composer Marc Lerchs) a homage to the deceased French singer Daniel Balavoine, in the year of 1986.
In 1988 she represented Luxembourg at Eurovision with a song called "Croire" and had a very good performance but the winner was Celine Dion. After she traveled in Canada in 1990 she decided to move in Quebec and with only 1,000 dollars in her pocket moved in Montreal to start a new life a great career.
She founded her own music label Productions Clandestines and after one year she produced her french debut album called "Lara Fabian" which has been sold in over 100,000 copies. Her second album "Carpe Diem" appeared in 1994 and in just three weeks won gold disk and three of its songs became hits: "Tu t'en vas", "Si tu m'aimes", and "Leila".
In 1997 appeared another successful album called "Pure" which was sold in 2 millions copies and went platinum in less than two weeks. After 2000 and her "Lara Fabian" English version album her fame went to US and Latin Americaand in 2004 and 2005 she released other two pieces of work "A wonderful life" and "9".
