
Keren Ann (full name Keren Ann Zeidel) was born on March 10, 1974, in Caesarea, Haifa,
Israel.
Biography and Career:
When she was a child her family moved to the Netherlands and, finally, moved to
Paris, France, when she was 11 years of age. She is a student of Computer Sciences, Philosophy, Psychology and Oceanography. Apart from her vocals and ability to play the guitar, Keren is also adept in playing keyboards and clarinet.
She released her debut album "La Biographie de Luka Philipsen" in January, 2000. It was produced by Lionel Gaillardin and Benjamin Biolay. Later on, she coupled with Biolay for penning words for Biolay's debut album "Ro
se Kennedy". Keren Ann also wrote five songs for Henri Salvador's award-winning album "Chambre avec Vue". The superhit track "Jardin d'Hiver" from this best-selling album was written by Keren and Biolay.
Keren Ann released her 2nd album La Disparition (The Disappearence) in April, 2002, with her previous producers. Alike her debut album the songs of the second album were in French and the album was released in France only. Her next release "Lady & Bird" included her first English piece of music and also a cover of "Suicide is Painless", the theme song of M*A*S*H. For this, she had worked with Bardi Johannsson of Iceland's band Bang Gang.
Keren released her first English solo "Not Going Anywhere" in November, 2003, under the label of Capitol Records in Europe. In 2004, she moved to New York and performed at Joe's Pub. In August, 2004, "Not Going Anywhere" was released in the US under the label of Metro Blue Records. It received praises from The New Yorker.
She then released "Nolita" in Europe (October, 2004) and the USA (March, 2005). The album featured guitarist Jack Pettruzzelli and jazz trumpeter Avishai Cohen.
Next, Keren Ann made her fifth release in Europe (April, 2007) and the USA (May, 2007). The self-titled album was sung entirely in English. It earned her two nominations at the French Grammys in 2008 for the categories of "Best Female Artist" as well as "Pop/Rock Album of the Year". In 2004, she was nominated for "Best Female Artist".
She has been on a worldwide tour in 2008.
