Born Kel Johari Rice Mitchell, the middle child in a family of 3 children, Kel studied at Santa Monica College in California, before he started off in the film industry in 1994.
Kel was given a regular role in 'All That', which spanned from 1994 to 1999. He was also given a lead role in 'Kel and Kimble', from 1996 to 2000. From 1996 to 2010, he has appeared in various other television series, spanning different genres. His most notable appearances are 'Two Heads Are Better Than None' (2000), 'The Power of One: The Pokemon 2000 Movie Special' (2000), 'Dance 360' (2004), 'Ganked' (2005), and 'Polly & Marie' (2007).
Kel has also appeared in many talk/ variety shows as himself, namely
'The Amanda Show' (1999), 'Spotlight on Location: Mystery Men' (2000), 'My Coolest Years' (2005), 'Celebrity Autobiography: In Their Own Words' (2005), and 'Why We Laugh: Black Comedians on Black Comdey' (2009). He also wrote and produced 'Chicago Pulaski Jones' in which he also stars in the lead role.
Kel married Tyisha Hampton in 1999 and they were divorced in 2005, with 2 children, Allure and Lyric.
