Kati Marton was born 3rd April, in Budapest, Hungary, in 1947.
Biography and Career
Kati Marton was born the daughter of UPI reporter Ilona Marton and award-winning AP reporter Endre Marton. The family fled Hungary following the revolution in 1956, and settled in Bethesda, Maryland. Kati then attended Bethesda Chevy Chase High School and graduated in 1965. Shen then went on to attend Wells College in Aurora, New York, the Sorbonne and the Institute des Etudes de Science in Paris.
From 1980, Kati has written and published five books, as well as worked as a reporter at ABC news, Public Broadcasting Services, National Public Radio, The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Vanity Fair and The New Republic. Wallenberg, was her fist book, and was a biography of Raoul W
allenberg, and was published by Random House in 1982. She followed up with a second book, a novel titled American Women, in 1987.
Kati's investigative history, The Polk Conspiracy, was acquired by Mel Gibson for a feature film, and uplifted he status as a writer. In 1994, she wrote A Death in Jerusalem â€“ The Extremists of the First Middle East Peacemaker.
From 1995 to 1997, Kati was based in West Germany, reporting from Poland, Hungary, Italy, Holland, Northern Ireland, East Germany and the Middle East, for ABC News.
Kati was awarded the Rbekah Kohut Humanitarian Award by the National Council of Jewish Women, and in 2002, she received a Matrix Award for Women who Changed the World. 2004 saw her receiving the Citizen's Committee of New York's Marietta Tree Award for public service and the Edith Wharton Award for Journalis, and the Woodhull Institute's 2004 Changemakers Award for Ethical Leadership in the Arts.
Kati is married to Richard Holbrooke, an ambassador, and currently resides in New York City with her daughter Elizabeth and son, Christopher. She had 2 former marriages to Carroll Wetzel (1973) and Peter Jennings (1979).
