Katherine Jenkins was born on June 29, 1980 in Neath, Glamorgan, Wales, UK. She is an award-winning Welsh mezzo-soprano.
Biography and Career :
She grew up in a council house and in the beginning she was attracted by pop music. After a while she discovered her love for classical music and she started to take piano lessons and joined to the local choir. Soon after she became a choir girl she shattered a chandelier whilst singing "O Holy Night" at Swansea's Brangwyn Hall.
In 1990 she attended Royal School of Church Music Cathedral Singers and there she succeeded to won the St Cecilia Award, the greatest RSCM award for female choristers. After her father's death she became more passionate about music and she won a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
She became famous in October 2003 when she sang at Westminster Cathedral honouring Pope John Paul II's silver jubilee. Soon after this she supported Aled Jones on his tour. In 2004 she signed the biggest classical music contract in United Kingdom and it appeared her debut album "Premiere" which had a huge success.
In the same year appeared her second album "Second Nature" which was even more appreciated and in 2005 was awarded by listeners of Classic FM with the title of Album of the Year at the 2005 Classical BRIT Awards. In 2005 she produced another two albums: "La Diva" and "Living a Dream" which was awarded just like "Second Nature". After "Serenade" in 2006 Katherine became again number one in 2007 with her last album: "Rejoice". Her music is very good sold and she became one of the richest young persons in UK.
