Ray West and Donda West are his parents' names and they divorced in 1980. He had attended The American Academy of Art and the Chicago State University / Columbia College, Chicago but renounced in order to have a music career. Besides being a singer he also sings the piano and percussion.
He is a successful rapper and is associated with artists like Jay-Z, Common, John Legend, Talib Kweli, Consequence
, T-Pain, Lupe Fiasco or J. Dilla. All his albums had a great success and were sold very well. He has a contract with Roc A Fella Records.
