Kaia Kanepi was born on June 10, 1985 in Tallinn, Estonia. She is a tennis player whose favorite surface is clay.

Biography and Career :

Her parents, Jaak and Anne, used to play tennis as well. Now (2007) her father is a real estate broker and her mother a homemaker. One of her sisters started playing tennis and the family moved to the United States. Soon she started to like this sport and began playing and creating her own career tennis when she was eight years old.

Before being a professional player she was World's Number One as a junior. In 2000 she became a professional tennis player and until now has won six ITF single titles and two ITF doubles titles.

Her models in this sport are Anna Kournikova, Martina Hingis, Marat Safin, Andy Roddick and Roger Federer and she would like to become as famous as they are and also as good as them one day.

She is trained by Andrei Luzgin and they are staying in Tallinn. At the tournament in Hasselt, Belgium she was a finalist and it was the first WTA final of her career. To play in the final she won against Anne Kremer, Nathalie Dechy, Eleni Daniilidou, Francesca Schiavone and Michaella Krajicek but unfortunately she lost with ease to more experienced Kim Clijsters.

In 2006 she participated at the US Open where she played in the third round and at Roland Garros where she reached the second round. In the next year she played at the Australian Open in the second round, but lost to Alicia Molik, and at Wimbledon also in the second round.

In 2007 she participated at the Indian Open and defeated Kristina Brandi in the first round, but lost to Daniela Hantuchova. Also in 2007 she participated at the Miami Open where she surprised everyone after eliminating Patty Schnyder. She lost to Vera Dushevina in the third round, but was happy with her performance.
