Jonathan Rhys Meyers (full name Jonathan Michael Francis O'Keeffe) was born on July 27, 1977, in Dublin, Ireland. He was born to parents Geraldine Meyers and John O'Keeffe who was a musician. He suffered from serious heart ailment at the time of his birth but recovered and had a troubled upbringing.
After the divorce of his parents he stayed at his grandmother's place and had to stay at an orphanage for some time. He was also dropped from school when he was 16 years old.
Following some rough time, he was selected to cast in the movie War of the Buttons (1994) but didn't manage to get the role. But that didn't keep him down. After appearing in an advertisement for Knorr, he got roles in the movie A Man of No Importance (1994) and The Disappearance of Finbar (1996). In the later movie, h
e got a frontline role.
He got a small role in the movie Michael Collins (1996) and then in Velvet Goldmine. His next movies were The Loss of Sexual Innocence (1999), The Governess (1998), Titus (1999), Ride With the Devil (1999), Bend It Like Beckham (2002), Vanity Fair (2004) and Alexander (2004).
Other films in which he had odd roles included The Tesseract (2003), Octane (2003) and Match Point (2005).
The variety of roles earned him distinction in the movie industry and for this he was offered the role of Henry VIII in the TV show The Tudors.
