John Tavener
John Tavemer (1495-1545) wrote masses and motets in polyphonic style, showing great contrapuntal skill, but as a Protestant renounced his art.
Short Biography:
He was imprisoned in 1528 for heresy, and, as an agent of Thomas Cromwell, assisted in the dissolution of the monasteries.
