John Morley, 1st Viscount Morley of Blackburn (1838-1923) entered Parliament in 1883, and was secretary for Ireland in 1886 and (1892-1895).
Short Biography:
As secretary for India (1905-1910), he prepared the way (with Viceroy Gilbert OMinto) for more representative government.
He was Lord President of the Council (1910-1914), but resigned in protest against the declaration of war. He published lives of the philosophers Voltaire and Rousseau and the politicians Burke and Gladstone. He received a peerage in 1908.
