John Greenleaf Whittier
John Greenleaf Whittier (1807-1892) was a powerful opponent of slavery, as shown in the verse Voices of Freedom in 1846.
Among his other works are Legends of New England in Prose and Verse, Songs of Labor in 1850, and the New England nature poem Snow-Bound in 1866.
