Short Biography:
He made a reputation with the war novels One Man's Initiation in 1919 and Three Soldiers in 1921.
His greatest work is the USA trilogy 1930-1936, which gives a panoramic view of US life through the device of placing fictitious characters against the real setting of newspaper headlines and contemporary events.
