John Crowe Ransom
John Crowe Ransom (1888-1974) published his romantic but anti-rhetorical verse in, for example, Poems About God in 1919, Chills and Fever in 1924, Selected Verse in 1947.
As a critic and teacher he was a powerful figure in the movement of New Criticism, which shaped much literary theory from the 1940s to the 1960s.
