Joan Chen was born April 26, 1961 in Shanghai, China. She is a four-time Golden Horse, Asian Film Awards, AFI Award, Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards, Hong Kong Film Critics Society Award, One Hundred Flowers Award and National Board of Review winning Chinese American actress, film director, screenwriter and film producer, best known for her roles in The Last Emperor, Twin Peaks, Red Rose, White Rose, Saving Face and The Home Song Stories, and for directing the feature film Xiu Xiu: The Sent Down Girl.
