
Jennifer Leann Carpenter was born on December 7, 1979 in Louisville, Kentucky, and she is the daughter of Catherine and Robert Carpenter. Jennifer Carpenter is an American actress best known for her portrayal of Debra Morgan on Dexter, Emily Rose in The Exorcism of Emily Rose and the lead role in the 2008 horror movie Quarantine.
Biography and Career:
Carpenter attended the Sacred Heart Academy and she trainer her acting skills at the Walden Theatre Conservatory. After she completed this first training program, Jennifer moved at the Juilliard School in New York City, one of the biggest drama schools in the U.S.
Soon after graduation, Carpenter was cast in her first important role, in the Broadway re-make of Arthur Miler's the Crucible where she appeared alongside Laura Lin
ney and Liam Neeson.
But her breakthrough came with a later role in a cinematographic production, The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005). For this role, she won an MTV Movie Award for Best Frightened Performance and a Hollywood Life Breakthrough Award. She was also nominated for Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress and MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance.
Starting with October 1, 2006, Jennifer Carpenter plays the female-leading role, Debra Morgan, in the TV series Dexter. Her portrayal of Debra Morgan has impressed several film critics, including the Australian journalist Jack Marx. He described her performance of "cool and clumsy" Debra as "so perfect that many viewers appear to have mistaken the character's flaws for the actor's."
As for personal life, in 2007 Jennifer Carpenter began dating her Dexter costar, Michael C. Hall. Their relationship evolved fast and in January 2009, they appeared together for the 66th Golden Globe Awards as a married couple.
Unfortunately, Jennifer and Michael broke up in December 2010 when the two of them released an official statement announcing the end of their marriage.
