Jeanne Madden Jeanne Madden, former film and stage star was born on November 10, 1917, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She was bitten by the acting bug very early on and she had been chosen for many leading roles in her high school plays at Central High. Jeanne was only 18 years old when she starred in her first film "Stage Struck" with Dick Powell, Joan Blondell and under the direction of Busby Berkeley. Jeanne played the role of Ruth Williams and sang "Fancy Meeting You" with Dick Powell. "Stage Struck" premiered at the Strand Theater in Scranton on August 29, 1936, the crowd was so big they broke through police lines to greet the young hometown starlet. Sadly, her father Harry was stricken ill and passed away one month before the movie premiere, he never got the opportunity to see his beloved daughte r on the big screen.

And like her father, Jeanne had a beautiful singing voice, she studied voice with Queena Maria, the prima donna of the New York Metropolitan Opera Company. At 17, she performed as a singer on the NBC Radio Network and in 1938 starred in the broadway production of Maxwell Anderson's "Knickerbocker Holiday" with the late Walter Houston.

Jeanne was married to Keith Martin of Hollywood, California in June of 1938 at the Elm Park Methodist Church in her hometown. She made two more films, "Talent Scout" and "Sea Racketeers" before taking time off to raise her family.

In her later years, she took over as proprietor of the family owned Holland Hotel. She died on January 15, 1989, at which time she was living in Hollisterville, Pa. She left behind three sons, Harry, Robert and Keith Martin, former anchorman at WBRE TV and Director of Pennsylvania Homeland Security.

Jeanne Madden Martin is buried at Forest Hill Cemetery in Dunmore, Pa.
