Javier Bardem (full name Javier Angel Encinas Bardem) was born on March 1, 1969, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain. His family was involved in the Spanish film industry for a long time and, thus, Javier Bardem got his first chance of acting in the movie "El Picaro" (1974).
Six years later, he was cast in the movie "El Poderoso influjo de la luna" (1980). He was involved with a theatre group.
Bardem had played in the national rugby team of Spain and also wanted to be a painter. But, later on, he focused on acting as a full time career option. In 1991, he had a small role in the movie "Tacones lejanos", directed by Pedro Almodovar.
Javier Bardem got international fame with the movie "Jamon, jamon" (1992) in which he stared opposite Penelope Cruz.
The film as a huge hit and Bardem, 23 at that time, received a bag full of awards including Best New comer at the Spanish Actors Union Award. He was also nominated for Goya.
Two year later, he stared in the movie "Dias contados" (1994) and received his first Goya Award, along with a number of other awards. His second Goya came the next year with his role in the movie "Boca a boca" (1995). He also appeared in a number of movies for the rest of the 90s including "Carne tremula" (1997) and "Entre las piernas" (1999) and several others.
In 2000, he acted in the movie "Before Night Falls" as Reinaldo Arenas. This role earned him his first nominations at the Oscar and Golden Globe. In 2002, he appeared in the movie "Los Lunes al sol" received his third Goya.
His next successful movie was "Mar adentro" (2004) for which he received another Goya Award and a Golden Globe nomination.
He also acted in the movie "Collateral" that year.
In 2005, he was selected as a jury at the Cannes Film Festival. After that, he stared in the movie "Goya's Ghosts" (2006) and, then, in "Love in the Time of Cholera" (2007).
In 2007, he also acted in the movie "No Country For Old Men" as Anton Chigurh. This brought him an Oscar in the category of Best Supporting Actor and also a Golden Globe among other awards.
He stared in the Woody Allen movie "Vicky Cristina Barcelon" in 2008.
