James Gordon MacArthur famously known as James MacArthur was a very famous American actor who acted in theaters, Broadway, movies, TV series, etc. He is widely known for his role as Danny Williams aka 'Danno' the reliable second-in-command in the series called Hawaii Five-O.
James was born on December 8th in the year of 1937. His birthplace was Los Angeles in the state of California but while he was just an infant he was adopted by noted playwright and screenwriter of that time, Mr. Charles MacArthur. James grew up in Nyack, New York and so did her sister and Charles and Helen Hayes' biological daughter Mary. He received his initial education from Allen-Stevenson School in New York and from Solebury School in New Hope, Pennsylvania. Right since school, James was accomplished at various
fields of life like basketball, baseball, football, drama, writing, etc.
When he grew up and turned 21, he married his fellow student named Joyce Bulifant in November, 1958. Unfortunately the marriage just lasted 9 years. Talking about his acting career, it began quite early at a very young age while he was still a teenager. Olney, Maryland in 1949 is considered as his stage debut and after that he did several plays like 'Life with father', 'Deal a blow', 'The young stranger', etc.
He also acted in the movie version of the play 'The young stranger' and for that he was also nominated as the most promising new comer, the year was 1958.
Later when college time came he went to Harvard University to study History but soon after finishing one year there he decided that he would make his full time career in acting. Luckily he had good work at his hand; he started off by doing few Disney movies like 'The light in the forest', 'Third Man on mountain', 'Kidnapped', 'Swiss family Robinson'.
All these movies were very successful. He did very less of Broadway but he was noticed in 'Invitation to a March' alongside Jane Fonda. He went on to do even a lot of good theatrical works along with movies. Then came the year 1967 when Leonard Freeman was finding a suitable actor who could play Danny Williams nicely in Hawaii Five-O.
Suddenly he ran across James and he was instantly selected after a screen test. Hawaii Five-O ran for 12 seasons and MacArthur did 11 of these.
He went through three marriages and had 4 children and 6 grandchildren. He died on October, 24 in the year 2010 by natural causes.
