James Buchanan James Buchanan was born on Saturday, April 23, 1791 in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, USA. He was the 15th President of the United States.

Biography and Career:

James Buchanan was the 15th President of the United States from 1857 to 1861. His father name was James Buchanan. He got his education from Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA (in 1890).James dated Ann Coleman but strangely remained a bachelor throughout his life. He is the only President from the state of Pennsylvania which is a proud for Pennsylvania people.

James Buchanan was famous head of state from United States of Presbyterian religion.

He was a talented and famous leader and politician. He first represented Pennsylvania in the representative house and then in the senate. He also offered his services as Secretary of State under the care of President James K. Polk.

Under the supervision of President Franklin Pierce, James remained minister to the United Kingdom and offer his services in the preparation of a very risky and the inflammatory Ostend Manifesto. It was mentioned that Spain is unwilling to sell Cuba then U.S. must impose a war on Spain. The Ostend Manifesto brought an irreparable loss to the administration of Franklin Pierce and this was never ever acted upon.

Although James Buchanan tried his level best to get the Democratic presidential nomination in three successive seasons of 1844, 1848, and 1852, but he could not succeeded. At last when he was away on business trip, he was nominated in the election of 1856. This was a compromise between the two sides of the slavery issue.

Buchanan tried to establish an everlasting peace between North and the South alienated both sides. Moreover when Southern states started their protests against the American Civil War, he made his point of view that secession was illegal but it is also illegal to move forward and stop the war. So in this regard he remained inactive and did not do anything.

When he left his office, a large number of views were against his agendas due to which the Democratic Party had split in two. Once he said that my presidency is so good that historians will compare me with George Washington but the way in which he faced and handled the crisis and crucial situation which led to the civil war was the worst example of worst presidency. That is why many scholars and historians have placed him in the D category of worst presidents.
