J.K. Rowling The name J.K. Rowling reminds us of one other name “Harry Potter”. Joanne Rowling is the creator of the fantasy character Harry Potter who gripped the world with his adventures and changed people’s thoughts related to the wizarding world.

Career:

J.K. Rowling was born on the date of July 31st, 1965 in Yate, Gloucestershire, England to Peter James Rowling and Anne Rowling. Rowling was into writing fantasy stories since childhood, which she used to read to her younger sister, Diane. Her primary school was St. Michael’s Primary School and her secondary school was Wyedean School and College. She did her BA in French and Classics from University of Exeter. She also spent a year in Paris pursuing studies and returned to London to pursue work as a researcher and take up a job as a B ilingual secretary in Amnesty International.

The Harry Potter brainwave struck Rowling while she was travelling from Manchester in train to London. When she reached her Clap-ham Junction, she started writing immediately. Meanwhile J.K. Rowling moved to Portal in Portugal and got hooked up with Jorge Arantes on 16th October, 1992. They had a daughter named Jessica and she got split up on November 1993. To cope up with divorce Rowling moved to Scotland, Edinburg where her sister lived along with her daughter. She even contemplated suicide back them.

To establish a teaching career in Scotland, Rowling obtained Postgraduate Certificate of Education. It was a year long course which she started in 1995 after completing her first novel. She is rumored to have written Harry Potter while sitting in Café’s.

Rowling’s first Harry Potter book was rejected by 12 publishing houses before she was given the green light by a small British publishing house, Bloomsbury in 1995. The “Harry Potter and Philosopher’s Stone” was published in 1997. She won British Book of the Year Award for Children’s book for the same.

Then there was no looking back for Rowling. Then came “Harry Potter and the Chamber of secrets” (1998), “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” (1999), “Harry Potter and Goblet of Fire” (2000), “Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix” (2003), “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince” (2005) and finally the last book “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” (2006).

On October 2010 in an Interview with Oprah, J.K. Rowling suggested that another book in the Saga of Harry Potter might happen.
