Ionel Ganea (full name Ioan Viorel Ganea) was born on August 10, 1973 in Fagaras, Brasov, Romania. He is a very valuable Romanian football player.
Biography and Career :
He started playing football at FC Brasov and he debuted in Liga 1 (the 1st Romanian League) on 20th August 1994 in a game against Ceahlaul Piatra-Neamt, ended with his team's lost, 3-1.
Before his debut in Liga 1 he played for 2 years in Liga 2 for another team in Brasov ICIM for whom scored 4 times. Between 1994-1996 played for FC Brasov in 50 games and scored only 4 times but he was transferred by a top Romanian team Universitatea Craiova at the half of the season 1995-1996.
Ionel Ganea was Craiova's player for 3 seasons and he played in more than 55 games and succeeded to score 22 times. His last
game at Craiova was a crucial one for the final of Championship. Rapid Bucharest played against Craiova and had to win to place on the first place in the classament and if Rapid had won Craiova went in UEFA Cup, but Ganea scored 2 times in that game, ended 2-2.
The Championship leader was Steaua Bucharest and Universitatea didn't go in UEFA Cup in that season after they lost the final of Romanian Cup against Rapid Bucharest.
He was transferred to Gloria Bistrita and in 16 games scored 17 goals in the first part of that season and in the second part went to Rapid. Here played another 16games, scored 11 times and won the title with Rapid.
He went in Germany and signed with VfB Stuttgart for a 600.000$ contract. He played in 107 games and scored 34 times.
Gheorghe Hagi took him in Turkey at Bursaspor but stayed there only for one season and scored 5 times. He was transferred in England at Wolverhampton Wanderers but most of the time was injured and played only 32 games in 3 years and scored 7 times.
He came back in Romania at Dinamo Bucharest and explodeed again with a lot of goals scored for his new team. He quickly became one of the fans' favourite.
He played 45 games and scored 19 times for Romanian national team. He debuted on 3rd fo March in a game against Estonia.
In 2000 he took part at European Championship in Belgium & Holland and succeeded to score the winning goal against England in a game ended 3-2. In 2006 after some controversies with the manager Victor Piturca decided to quit from national team.
