Huldrych Zwingli (1484-1531) was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1506, but by 1519 was a Reformer, and led the Reformation in Switzerland with his insistence on the sole authority of the Scriptures.
In a war against the cantons that had not accepted the Reformation he was killed in a skirmish at Kappel.
