Howard Hughes was a prominent industrialist whose ventures were unparalleled by any man of his time, an unorthodox and a rebel film maker who made films from his heart, a philanthropist who never thought for a spur of a moment before writing a cheque for donation, and an aviator who set several records in his name. He was born on 24th of December in the year of 1905. He rose to fame in his young age around late 20s.

Howard Hughes Jr. was born on in Huston, Texas. As a young lad, he was sharp, brilliant and highly intelligent. He built the first radio transistor in Huston when he was 11. He built the first motorized bicycle with some parts from his father’s steam engine. His parents left him a huge fortune and passed away when he was 19. He dropped out of the Rice Univ
ersity after his father died and in 1925 he was married to Ella Bots Rice.
After his marriage he moved to Los Angeles and started making movies. In 1927 he made Everybody’s Acting and the next year he made Two Arabian Knights. Both the films did good and the latter one got even an academy award for the best director. The next movie he made went into history books. The movie was called Hell’s Angels and it was made with a whooping budget of $3.8 million which was considered huge money back then. He created history when this movie was made and hit the screens. After that he made some other films as well like ‘The Racket’, ‘The Front Page’, ‘The Outlaw’, etc.
Meanwhile, there were lots of rumors that he is having an affair with several well known ladies of that time like Billie Dove, Bette Davis, Ava Gardner, and Katherine Hepburn but more over he was linked too heavily with actress Jane Russell who had acted in his film ‘The Outlaw’. Due to these rumors he even got divorced from his wife in 1929.
He was an excellent engineer and a aviator too. He built several aircrafts which were used by US Air Force in his company Hughes Aircraft Company. He built the Hughes H – 1 racer, the massive H-4 Hercules, and he also took over a loss making Trans World Airline Company and made it a profitable one. He achieved feats which were considered fathomless and impossible. He received several awards for his aviator skills and he set several flight records also. He used to design aircrafts himself.
He was believed to be erratic and at times compulsive and despotic. But he was an enthusiast who stopped at nothing. Due to his over restlessness he suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorder. Kidney failure was reported as his reason of death.
But he left huge money behind, a lot of it in charity, after he died. The biggest proof of this is the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, where lots of research and new work is promoted. Howard died in 5th April, 1970 as a billionaire.
