Horace Walpole, 4th Earl of Orford (1717-1797) was a Whig member of Parliament 1741-1767.
Short Biography:
He converted his house at Strawberry Hill, Twickenham, into a Gothic castle; his The Castle of Otranto in 1764 established the genre of the Gothic novel, or "romance of terror".
