Biography and Career :
She studied at the Bellingham Theatre Guild, the Sehome High School and the Santa Monica College and spent part of her childhood in Bellingham, Washington. Larry Moss was her acting teacher.
At sixteen years old she started her professional acting career. In 1992 she debuted in the film "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". After two years she was seen in "The Next Karate Kid" and in 1997 in "Beverly Hills, 90210". Other roles she had had until now (2007) are in movies like "Freedom Writers", "The Reaping", "Screen Nation Television and Film Awards 2007", "P.S., I Love You", "The Space Between" or "The Core". Two of her last projects ar
e roles in "The Laws of Motion" and "Labyrinth".
Among the many awards she had won until now are two Academy Awards, one for Brandon Teena in "Boys Don't Cry" and the other as Maggie Fitzgerald in "Million Dollar Baby", Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, two Golden Globe Awards for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture: Drama or an Independent Spirit Awards for Best Female Lead.
On September 28, 1997 she married Chad Lowe. The couple filed for divorce.
