Henryk Sienkiewicz

Henryk SienkiewiczHenryk Sienkiewicz (full name Henryk Adam Aleksander Pius Oszyk-Sienkiewicz) was born on May 5, 1846 in Wola Okrzejska, Poland. He was a famous Polish Novelist.

Biography and Career :

In 1858 Henryk Sienkiewicz started classes in a high-school in Warsaw. Next year he became a student at the University in Warsaw and studied law and medicine for one year.

After that he started studying humanistic science.

In 1869 he started to publish stories, chronicles under the nickname "Litwos".

He wrote his first novel in 1872 "In Vane".

He traveled to North America, France, Italy and Galicia between 1876-1879.

He published in 1884 the first novel of the historic trilogy "With Fire and Sword".

In 1886 and 1887 he published the next two "The Deluge", "Pan Wo³odyjowski".

After he finished the trilogy he got 15.000 rubles from an unknown person and he made a scholarship for the writers who suffered from tuberculosis.

In 1896 he wrote his greatest novel "Quo Vadis" and won in 1905 the Nobel Price and he was considered a prolific writer by Americans for this novel.

He wrote "The Teutonic Knights", "In Desert and Wilderness" and a not finished novel "The Legions" between 1900-1914

He passed away on the 15th of November in Vevey, Switzerland and he was brought in Poland in 1924 and burried at Saint John Cathedral in Warsaw.
